Sutter Health
Home Care Professionals
Not-For-Profit Network
As a not-for-profit organization, we reinvest our resources back into the community. Sutter hospitals serve more of the Medi-Cal patient population in Northern California than any other health system.* We proudly fund and partner with community programs to help ensure those in need have access to care and social services.
Mission
We enhance the well-being of people in the communities we serve through a not-for-profit commitment to compassion and excellence in healthcare services.
Vision
Sutter Health leads the transformation of healthcare to achieve the highest levels of quality, access and affordability.
Message to Our Community
Our teammates live Sutter’s values on a daily basis as we support and provide high-quality, inclusive patient care. Sutter Health’s commitment to our values and diversity and inclusion does not stop at our doors. When conduct by our employees outside of work — online or off — impacts our patients, teammates or organization, we will stand by our commitment to equality and non-discriminatory practices and look into the matter.
This includes responding when we are made aware of comments on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter or Instagram that use language or images that are intentionally inflammatory, promoting racism, sexism, homophobia and hate or endorsing violence.
We value the trust placed in us to provide safe, equitable, compassionate care. When potentially problematic conduct is brought to our attention, we do a thorough review and consider the relevant facts. Our response to such situations may range from education and training to formal corrective action, up to and including separation from employment.
We remain committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment to work and receive quality, compassionate healthcare where all are treated with dignity and respect, regardless of race, gender, gender identity, age, disability, ethnicity, sexual orientation or religious belief.
- Excellence and Quality — We exceed customer expectations by delivering premier clinical quality and maintaining the highest levels of safety.
- Innovation — We continually create, seek out and adopt new ways of providing value to our customers, rapidly moving from idea to execution.
- Affordability — We deliver healthcare efficiently by using resources responsibly.

- Compassion and Caring — We treat those we serve and one another with concern, kindness and respect.

Advanced Illness Management (AIM)
Advanced Illness Management is a care management program for people with advanced illnesses that focuses on skilled, respectful coaching and care. The focus of care is moved out of the hospital and into the home and community. AIM supports people receiving care and their caregivers in managing health to meet lifestyle and personal preferences.
Sutter Health History
It was more than a century ago that Sutter Health first began to form as a way to help local communities cope with growing populations, epidemics and natural disasters. In an effort to ensure that healthcare services would be available for future generations, physicians, hospitals and community members in Northern California eventually joined together to formally create the not-for-profit Sutter Health network.
We started out as a loosely knit community of independent healthcare providers, but forces like rising costs and declining payment for services made it difficult for hospitals and physicians to continue operating on their own. Just in the last decade, more than 100 Northern California hospitals have had to close their doors, and the majority of the state's physician groups are facing significant problems as well.
Our Historical Roots
While Sutter Health as it is today was created through the January 1996 merger of the Sacramento-based Sutter Health and the Bay Area-based California Healthcare System, the foundation of Sutter Health began taking shape as early as the 1800s, as independent hospitals opened to meet the healthcare needs of their local communities.
