Case Western Reserve University Medical School

Since 1843, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine has been at the forefront of medical education, dedicated to enhancing human health, and a leader and innovator in healthcare education and biomedical research. The School's mission is three-fold: providing excellence in medical education through our unique curriculum, advancing discoveries from our laboratories to patients, and improving the health of our community. 

The School of Medicine is one of the top-25 medical schools in the country and both the #1 medical school and largest biomedical research institution in Ohio. It consistently ranks in the top tier of medical schools for NIH research funding. It has nearly two dozen program and degree options for prospective students and is 14th in the nation for graduating both successful faculty and Black physicians. In 2019, it opened the doors of a new 485,000 square foot Health Education Campus which brings together multiple health profession students from across the university under one roof to promote interprofessional education and collaborative practice.

The school is affiliated with four top-ranked hospitals—Cleveland Clinic, Louis Stokes VA Medical Center, MetroHealth System, and University Hospitals—and its combined research prowess has supported scientific achievements across a wide range of fields and disciplines.

Strategic Plan

Welcome to Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine’s strategic plan encompassing 2021–2026.
In fall 2020, school leaders, basic science chairs and department representatives developed the plan’s outline and first draft. Then, to ensure the successful implementation of the plan, we shared it with the school's faculty, staff and hospital affiliate partners in a series of meetings and town halls, engaging them in the process as owners and asking for their feedback.
After gathering and analyzing the data received from the town halls, we developed objectives and measurable results for each of these areas and finalized this five-year strategic plan. It is important for this plan to adapt and grow over time, so look for us to revise it as needed over the years.

Strategic Vision

Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine is the intellectual glue for health education and research faculty across Cleveland’s academic medical centers—Cleveland Clinic, Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center, MetroHealth System and University Hospitals—coordinating a network of transdisciplinary effort that touches myriad diseases and cultural backgrounds.

Approach

We utilize an extraordinary consortium of medical school faculty across all Cleveland medical institutions to create integrated teams of experts to educate our trainees, link disciplines to discover the mysteries and treatment of serious diseases, and understand and eliminate health inequities in Cleveland and across the world.
